In partnership with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Mercy Corp is taking part in a comprehensive peacebuilding program. We have been working with communities in Nigeria since 2012.
Also, the Community Initiative to Promote Peace (CIPP) program aims at preventing violent conflict in high-risk communities in 6 Nigerian states and 24 local government areas (LGA) in the Northwest and Northwestern states.
This program will address the causes of conflict and build long-term peace in the target areas. To achieve this we focus on governance, protection of the vulnerable population, social cohesion, inclusion of women, youths, and women with disabilities, and local conflict management. Also, the program will be implemented in the following states: Benue, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, and Plateau.
The ideal candidate will:
Increase local capacity and ability in conflict management
Enable and strengthen Early Warning and Early Response mechanisms (EWER)
Also, improve collaboration among communities and government agencies, Civil Society Organizations, and leaders at the local level to address conflict from the root cause.
Address violent extremist recruitment tactics
Improve the ability of women in conflict prevention and resolution.
Support the management of the women peacebuilding councils by collaborating with the Gender team, Program team, and implementation partners at the state and local level.
Support the capacity building training of women across the sic States
In addition, Offer support to joint activities for the councils across the six states
Assist in the implementing of gender-sensitive programs
Also, work with the monitoring and evaluation team to implement gender-sensitive policies
Assist the Gender and Monitoring and Evaluation team on gender assessment to inform how the CIPP addresses the peculiar needs of states.
Provide gender integration and social inclusion technical assistance
Support the communication officer to assist with documentation of successes, lessons learned, and best practices and communicate such documentation to the Gender and Program team to add to Global knowledge on gender and social inclusion and how they contribute to peacebuilding.
Produce resource materials in the area of women in peacebuilding.
In addition, support training and facilitation of policy dialogue on issues such as women and conflict, gender and social inclusion advocacy, sexual and gender-based violence with government and other stakeholders.
Job qualification and Experience
A university degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Peace Studies, International Development, or any related field.
At least 2years experience working in program management on gender and social inclusion within community and civil society development programs. This should be preferable with USAID or other US Government programs.
Excellent knowledge about gender and social inclusion problems in Nigeria. This also includes social political and cultural gender norms and problems
Also, excellent interpersonal communication and diplomacy skills
Knowledge of the status of the vulnerable and marginalized population in Nigeria and their relationship to social political and cultural norms.
Experience in the area of capacity building for local stakeholders on gender and social inclusion issues.
Experience in implementing social inclusion in community advocacy
Ability to multitask and work in a team
In addition, proven organizational and analytical skills
