Job Description
The MEA Communications team’s primary mandate, which the ideal candidate will work with, is to build, advance, defend and protect, the reputation of MasterCard, its products, enterprise, and brand.
The jobholder will join a highly driven African team focused on achieving rapid success and growth across the continent.
The Manager, Communications must have a track record at building competence and confidence in the strategic use of communications within the organization.
He/she is to deliver impactful and credible communications to key external stakeholders and the equally important employee base.
Based in either Lagos, Nigeria, or Kenya, they will report to the Marketing and Communications Director: Sub Sahara Africa.
The Manager, Communications will provide strategic counsel to the Sub-Saharan African senior management teams and support strategic business initiatives.
Mastercard expects the Manager, Communications to partner with the marketing team on brand building with a sophisticated approach to, and execution of, issues and reputation management.
Job Responsibilities
The Manager, Communications is to lead the development and implementation of a communications strategy for Mastercard in SSA for internal and external audiences.
He/she aligns with the regional Mastercard MEA communications strategy and operates as part of the MEA-wide communications team.
Work closely with country teams, internal business stakeholders, and external customers.
The ideal candidate will lead message development discussions with country teams and customers and oversee the planning.
The jobholder will pioneer internal and external communications related to philanthropic programs to increase awareness and drive employee engagement.
Establish network with stakeholders
Work closely with MasterCard’s PR Agencies in Africa to execute MasterCard’s Communications strategy.
The Manager, Communications will take charge of major Sub-Saharan African events.
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate must possess a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Communications, International Relations / Public Affairs, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science, or other.
Relevant experience in using traditional and social media publishing tools, social media listening tools, web and social analytics, and tools are sacrosanct for this position.
High levels of initiative, judgment, and decisiveness in accomplishing tasks; proven ability to work independently; good time-management skills and an eye for detail; ability to work effectively under stress; and juggle multiple tasks within tight deadlines are equally important.
Excellent copyediting and writing skills
The ideal candidate must be a risk manager
Excellent project management skills
The Manager, Communications is to be a team player
understanding of the African scene in areas like culture, economy, socio-politics, and development plan.
Journalistic experience an advantage.
